Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour

(1810-1861), Italian statesman, first Prime Minister of Italy.
A noble with republican ideas, he published 'Il Risorgimento' in 1847. He entered government in 1850, used the army to unify most of Italy, and made Rome the capital of the reunified country.
