Kootenay National Park
A few more photos from our 2019 winter trip through the Canadian Rockies, this of Kootenay National Park in British Columbia.
Kootenay National Park
Kootenay National Park in British Columbia suffered from wildfires last year and this was an area affected by those wildfires. We drove through Kootenay, Banff and part of Jasper March 14 and 15 on our way to Edmonton.

Kootenay River
Taken at Mcleod Meadows in Kootenay National Park in British Columbia, this is an area we where we have camped, hunted for native orchids and hiked. This was the first time we had been through the area in the winter.
Paint Pots
We stopped along the Kootenay River in Kootenay National Park to hike the short trail to the Paint Pots, an area of ochre beds described in the park brochure as "an area of unusual physical and chemical activity" that has "a history of use by both Aboriginal groups and Europeans." We hiked up to several ponds, the springs where the ochre deposits accumulate and from which they flow down into the valley covering the area with red ochre. This is one of the ponds, the greenish color due to fresh water flowing into the pond.

Kootenay River
When traveling through Kootenay National Park in British Columbia one follows the Kootenay River for much of the way. We made numerous stops along the river both by way of hunting orchids and also enjoying the scenery. The day we traveled through the park we had clear skies and sunshine in the morning changing to more threatening weather and rain late afternoon.
