I'm so glad you enjoyed my rock pictures! I was so excited to share them with you and Nancy! As I mentioned earlier, I was already sure she'd not want a tumbler but of course it would have been really fun if my results changed her opinion on the idea. Cool lady with way the hell too many fun things (and not as fun things) to fill her day! :D
I really love that little amber and clear quartz rock too and you're right, it WOULD make a nice pendant. Will have to think about doing that...except that it would need to be a bracelet because Steve and I are both wearing lovely rock opal pendants we got in AU on our honeymoon and "they ain't comin' off fer nobody, nothing, and no how!" (you've seen and appreciated this picture but as a reminder from 5 yrs ago... www.ipernity.com/doc/290645/32672509 ) (I should get a picture of Steve's too!)
Oh, and Steve's Fat Stripe rock IS such a cool stone! I've been hunting for something close to its huge cool-factor and managed to find a really neat black rock with wonderful white veining a bit like lightning. Will be a bit before it's polished but I'm very happy to have found it. I am also very fond of the polished shell from Long Beach on Vancouver Island. Especially because we TRIED to keep a few shells intact that we'd picked up...all were lost, crushed or broken because I didn't care for them properly by putting them in a padded container. MEH! The one I turned was actually found ON THE GROUND outside the trailer, omg. *shame-face* How it got there, I don't know, must have fallen out of a pocket and promptly stepped on. Oh brother. But instead of chucking it, I realized that it was thick enough that I reasoned I might be able to tumble it without losing it all to dust. The resulting polished shell with its wonderful pores and texture totally delight me and elevate it to my Grand Souvenir of Long Beach! :)
What I dig about those polished stones is that every single one of them is worthy of a long stare of appreciation. The time to polish them was worth it and each is a prize for us to enjoy. It does occur to me...ya know, Janet...you're going to amass quite the pile of polished rocks...it's one of those never-ending projects! Well, I don't mind accruing piles of pretty stones. :)
I'm so happy to hear that your daughter had her baby without any problems and you are a grandpapa again! :) I know you've been planning this trip for some time, I hope it's a wonderful experience for one and all. I cannot imagine what it might be like to be a parent, yet alone a grandparent, to a (human) child! My motherly instincts are plenty strong though and I am always very devoted to my animal family members who I adore and shower with love. :)
WOW!! Your plans for the upcoming travel season are MIGHTY impressive and they just keep on growing! SO MANY FUN THINGS!!! International travel, local adventures, backpacking and more! HOOO-WAH!! I'm really excited for you, what fun! Now that we seem to be back on track and feeling much better about life and everything, Steve and I are really looking forward to heading out in our trailer once the weather allows us to go...the trailer is essentially non-moveable until the ground dries as we are up the hill enough that the mud is precarious at best and that's about as far as we'll go on that...no thank you! :D We actually haven't even made any plans at all yet except that we are planning to go for long spells and stay for a long time at each place, wherever that may be. Once we have an idea you'll be the first to know about it!
Weather...it's raining right now and getting progressively colder...supposedly will be colder and colder each day until Thursday and tomorrow is the first prediction of possible snow with more and more as the days go by. We shall see. Your idea of holing up is wise and I think that tomorrow Steve will be going out for provisions and then we'll be holed up too!
Ok, off I go! I made sure to grab my laptop and sit in the guest bedroom without any distractions...well...I WAS also looking up geology and mineral books too...heh...but I wanted to visit with you and leave a proper post today! :)
