Jack-go-to-Bed-at-Noon

This is Yellow Salsify, or Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon, so named because the flowers close at midday. It is common plant in our area but is a European import.

In Europe, when people still mowed their meadows with scythes, Jack gave the signal to stop mowing. When his flowers go to sleep, the sun stands too high and the grass becomes too dry to be mowed anymore. Mowing was stopped until the next dawn, when the grass became wet again by nightly dew.
In German it is called Bocksbart -> Goatsbeard, which describes the state of the closed flower just before it opens again as ... well, no idea how you call it, that round fluffy collection of parachuted seeds, you easily can blow away ...
