Painted Turtle

Painted Turtle
While in the area of Medical Lake west of Spokane we saw this turtle crossing a rather busy road and stopped to rescue him. When we saw how beautiful he was we also took pictures, though much of his beauty is on the underside of his shell. His yellow-striped head and legs and a hint of the red and black marking on his shell can be seen. We left him at the side of nearby pond and found out later that he is a Painted Turtle, Chrysemys picta. There are more pictures of him including a picture of his underside at the link below.
