Fire down to the valley floor

Fire down to the valley floor
Photo by my daughter-in-law from their yard. The Tennant Fire near Dorris, California. Terrible heat wave from N. Calif. to middle of BC, Canada. We've had shocking heat. The highest was 128f / 53c in the village of Lytton, BC!!! The next day, the town of abt. 250 burned to the ground as residents ran for their lives. Two died. Terrible. (Thinking of you, BC!)

Other records broken on 28 June:
Portland, OR - 118f / 48c
Seattle, WA - 109f / 43c
Klamath Falls, OR - 105f / 41c

Meanwhile, extreme drought, high winds, and news stations report heat-related deaths are at least in the high hundreds in the Pacific west of North America. Since the record-breaking temps, it's been in the high 90s every day and will continue there for at least a week. Another severe "heat dome" after that, but will cover more of California and perhaps Nevada and Arizona.

Andrea Riberti, tiabunna, Smiley Derleth, Gabi Lombardo and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

It's now 55% under control, so is less threatening.

I really wonder if, and in case the answer is yes, how we will come out of all that ... but I am rather pessimistic.
And given the fact that our behavior is already affecting the jet streams, we'll get the Gulf Stream done, too. And then: Good night Europe.

I know, Leon, I think the same way. It seems that nearly all of the men in charge of everything are plodding along, doing the same as they have always done. Little nobodies like you and me care more about the earth than they do.

I hate to even think what the years ahead will be like, Gabi. It makes my head spin. Thank you for your comment.

If you put the outdoor unit of the air conditioner in the shade, it will be quite cool even if the temperature is over 40 degrees Celsius.

Mine is in the shade, but it is small and does not have enough power. So, I am sometimes not cool inside. Next year, I might buy another one.
