I must confess to being surprised by Pam's reference to Narnia! We must have been reading different books as children!

What were you reading? I was reading all of Dickens, all of Twain and all of the adventure tales I could get ahold of - Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe, The Time Machine...well, you get the idea. If I'd come across Narnia I'm sure I would have read it!

Narnia, Tolkien, science fiction, and some peculiarly English adventure books for children. Twain yes. Dickens - never my cup of tea, Anything by RL Stephenson and even Walter Scott.
I look back in amazement at some of my likes!

I adored Dickens and that seems unlikely, given that I was an ordinary girl in small town Oregon. I think I was in 6th grade when I discovered The Tale of Two Cities in the summer bookmobile, then I was off and running with old Charles. Another one I forgot was The Secret Garden (Burnett), which I read after I saw the film. I went through all of Steinbeck, then Austen and much later the Russians. Ahh, the good old days of new wonders every day. Those early books have stayed in my mind to this day.

Mundane it was, and the cabin was tiny...but I miss it! Thanks, Wally.
