The conversation up-line here just shows why the long decline of Sears is so sad. They weren't always just an anchor store in a mall. They were part of life in America in a way Amazon, at it's richest and most giddy, can't even dream.

Smiley, you are SO right! My mother's family lived on the S. Dakota prairie and the only way they could get some things was through the Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs. They were the "paper mall" of the Depression, especially. Thank you!
