With this object, Duchamp asked the question: What is art? Anything can be art as long as it is chosen and signed by an artist. This approach has been used a great deal since.
He had a sense of provocation, derision and humour, that's the difference with some modern artists who take themselves very seriously!

It's difficult to argue against that point of view.............but of course, all artwork is very subjective.

This is a very good example. As much as I understand the author's approach, it leaves me indifferent!
But I've seen worse as an installation of beams and broken bricks.
