Oldham and its environs
Oh what a beautiful Winter
|
|
|
|
There's something about snow and sun that makes it all worth it. We don't get too much of this here -when it snows, its dull and cold and miserable but on this day in our local park, the world was once again beautiful. Just a few hours of snow before a sudden thaw making my trip out, well worth it.
Nb Three more beautiful shots taken at the same time. PiP (top left)

This was just the beginning of our recent snow storm. This chap had an important mission. Click on the PiP's to see what that was.

The beast from the East

It came from Siberia! This was yesterday on a local hilly road, today its too bad for me to go get more like this. Joined in our South West today by Storm Emma, they are having much more snow and wind. It's said that we have not faced a Winter like this for two generations. Ah well -makes for exciting photography though.
-Taken about 40 mins walk from my home.
The trees in mist

There is something about these trees in this mist that suggest that they are on the move. For me, a grand subject, taken in my local park.
An Autumn in Tandle Hills

Winter mist at Lees

Just a stroll from my home, this fenced bend attracts me like a moth to flame. Taken on the onset of our first snowfall of the winter of 2014/15
A misty morning at Alexandra Park

As the morning mist rises from the water in my local park, the sun starts to show its head. Enjoy with me this moment of tranquillity whilst it last.

As a new year begins. Let me express my wish to you all for a very Happy New Year. May your photos, like your life, be perfect! ~ Herb. Jan 1 2021
(Original text and date: No, the snows have not come early to Oldham, this is just a reminder of possible things to come and look forward to. Taken just some minutes walk from my home. Posted: Nov15 2014)
Railway walk, Lees

On a dull cold day in January I normally wish for crispy snow and deep blue skies. Not much hope in this year of 17 but still a rather nice snapshot of my walking area.
A dash of Winter
|
|
|
|
As another bout of cold weather descends on my home here in NW England, I take the opportunity again to walk my local paths along with my trusty Nikon. This path which seems, for 99% of the year mud bound, is now frozen and has a new layer of white powder snow. The small waterfall, S-curve and lovely green boughs of the pines all go together to make this almost a painting.

A blast of Winter
|
|
|
|
As the Winter here in Oldham carries on forever, there are some benefits. Here we stroll down one of my local walks which is transformed into a Winter Wonderland. The fence forcing our eye and bodies to continue down the road wondering, "what is around the corner".
HFF to all here in Ipernity
NB: Late addition, see the PiP in top left for mono version.
Happy Fence Day
An old mill in Oldham

Fence, stairs and grid shadows as seen on one of our local mills. A nostalgic view for all those that have laboured in such places. HFF to all my viewers.

Lowry Days

A blast from the past. This old slide taken some forty odd years ago reminds us of the latest past Winter and the old joys of enjoying the snow. This hill has now changed somewhat with new apartments etc covering the top edge and certainly no access to the public any more. The title and photo is reminiscent to the style of our famous Salford artist L.S Lowry. Enjoy.
Down to Yeoman Hey

Looking down from Greenfield reservoir to Yeoman Hey Reservoir, on quite a dull day. This is my usual local walking area.
Lee grad filter used to darken already leaden skies.
HFF to all, and enjoy your weekend, Herb
Winter of Oldham, March 2016

A walk from my home, this only about 10 minutes away can be a splendid experience, even in Winter. Here we see the results of our first real snows of this 2015/16 Winter and a day after it was almost all gone.
Autumn fence

Autumn is perhaps my favourite time of year for outdoor photography. I love the golden trees and the dappled sunlight as it burns through the early morning mist as demonstrated here.
Taken in my local park. Best viewed full screen.
I wish you all, a great weekend,Herb
