HAPPY FENCE FRIDAY

HFF~ Kyleakin Lighthouse

06 May 2024 21 33 101
A view of this lighthouse and fenced pier on the small Island of Eilean Bàn taken from high on the Skye bridge itself. Built in 1857 by David and Thomas Stevenson. It was discontinued in 1993. There were originally two lighthouse keepers resident with their families on the Island in a nearby cottage. When the lighthouse keeper moved out the lighthouse residence cottage (see PiP) was bought by the writer Gavin Maxwell (Ring of Bright Water fame). After his death the cottage became derelict but has since been restored as a visitors centre. Have a good weekend.

HFF~ A view from Duncraig Castle

07 May 2024 23 38 120
This taken from the car-park at the side of the castle. A nice fence with an even nicer view. Oh to see this in the ‘Golden Hour’ or with a beautiful azure sky but alas it was not to be. One can only imagine what it would be like to have these views from your big inside windows here. Have a good weekend.

HFF~ Duncraig Castle pier

A safe seat here with the fence too. This is where we would await our private yacht delivering us to and from the nearby castle. PiP One for the Happy Bench Monday group too –maybe :) Have a good weekend.

HFF~ NC500 GT. - 63 – Wick

10 Jun 2014 28 46 82
The Inner harbour of Wick (One of three harbours) has a lot of marine activity. This timber being prepared for loading on the 'Scot Carrier' a specialist timber carrying vessel that takes timber to and from many other Scottish harbours. The NC 500: The Scottish 'North Coast 500' is one of the world’s most beautiful road trips. A route of just over 500 miles (516) of stunning coastal scenery, white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, remote fishing villages and hidden gems. Enjoy the weekend.

HFF~ Hubberhome fenced bridge

28 Jul 2024 28 46 110
A walk in a valley that we have not seen for many years. Its quite wild looking but most of it is surrounded by pastoral fields. To our left just some 30 metres or so is one of our favourite rivers: The River Wharfe. Our path goes on now for another 2-3km before turning back well above this spot and beyond. Always nice to see the wild summer flowers. The characteristic dead tree also giving our eyes something to dwell on. Hubberholme is an old village in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, England, at the point where Langstrothdale meets Wharfedale. It is quite secluded and the nearest village is Buckden. Have a good weekend.

HFF~ Ornate stone fence on the lake

12 Apr 2024 25 34 74
We are back in Studley Royal Water Gardens Park and this is just one of the lakes that form this park. The River Skell makes this all possible. Just to the left of me is a slight dam and weir then behind me is the start of the Seven Bridge valley walk. Enjoy the weekend.

HFF~ A Hubberholme Gate

28 Jul 2024 27 40 79
We are in the Hubberholme valley just a mile or so west from the village and come across the gate barring our path. Fortunately the bit of string fixing the gate to the wall is soon undone to let us proceed. The River Wharfe runs on our right side here. The PiP shows the same valley. Hubberholme is an old village in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Have a good weekend.

HFF ~ St Michael and All Angels, Hubberholme

28 Jul 2024 17 34 65
Take your pick for fences, walls and benches ! As we finish our hike around here, I cannot go without taking a snap of this most wonderful little church. “The church building is mainly 12th century built upon the site of a forest chapel. It was extended to the north in the 16th century. Inside, can be found a beautiful wooden Rood Loft which survived Elizabeth I's edict to destroy all such objects.” www.upperwharfedalechurches.org/hubberholme.html Have a good weekend.

HFF~ The stile gate

28 Jul 2024 23 35 68
Another from the upper Wharfdale valley near Hubberholme in the Yorkshire Dales. We have to go along this path and through the gate to complete the walk here on The Dales Way. Have a good weekend.

HFF~ Webbed fence

An early (for me) walk on a cool sunny autumn morning with bits of mist, brings me back to one of my local reservoirs here at Strinesdale. At the edge of the water is a metallic tubular fence trying to stop the many duck feeding children from falling into the water. Here is my close-up of it. Have a good weekend.

HFF~ It’s a misty start to autumn

16 Sep 2024 27 38 50
Strinsdale reservoir is only about 4km from my home but it has many rewards. Besides the old small reservoir itself which is now a fishing lake there are several scenic pathways. This one follows a small stream down to the bottom of the valley. Have a good weekend.
