Lindesfarne: Parish church

Lindesfarne: Parish church
A trip to Lindisfarne (Holy island) is not complete without exploring the church of 'St Mary the Virgin' which sits opposite to the ancient priory. Here we see the alter area. The church itself is extremely old having been built between 1180-1300 which is even older than the ruined Norman priory. (PiP)

Enjoy.

Hi Gordon. I have to admit that it is a hdr. there were light sources from the right side but no way one could balance the light like I have done here with it. Glad you liked this one.

A beautifully composed and exposed interior shot Herb.............the light, colours and details are all spot on and the stained glass windows are particularly stunning. I love the symmetry too.

Thanks a lot Keith. Getting such things as interiors just right is always difficult. In the old days one would use reflectors and multiple flash or lamps as light sources, even then it was difficult to balance it all up right. Nowadays with digital, one only needs to balance such things as shadow -highlights etc in the camera or better still with good editing software. I used hdr here (as said to Toz above) but the results might have been good done in a different way. Hand-held hdr always looses out on sharpness. The symmetry is another problem :)

I didn't even think of HDR...........so I'm even more impressed. It's very subtly done!
