Down in the yard

Down in the yard
Britain has a proud railway heritage and we still try to cling on to many aspects of that. Here we are in the workshop yard of the NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) heritage railway system in the village of Grosmont. These wheels will have once belonged to a proud steam engine and might do so again thanks to the volunteers and people who work with and support the NYMR.

Nice full size.

Gudrun, Frank J Casella, Peter_Private_Box, Rosalyn Hilborne and 22 other people have particularly liked this photo

Impressive photograph of impressive wheels - it's really great that volunteers take care of these steam giants and keep them alive.

Thanks Stefan. Yes we have a lot of such places and it is generally a thing of honour to work in/on them.

Good to see you again Steve. Yes, I know that Australia has quite a few heritage railways ran by volunteers too. A great hobby for sure.

That's right my friend. A little bit too greasy and dirty here for most folk. A scene you will have seen often I suspect.

A super "detail" shot Herb...........with wonderfully vibrant colours. Yellow, green and rust are a great combination.

I didn't realise you were a railway buff :-)

The NYMR railway has the advantage of the wonderful scenery it passes through and it's in a tourist area, but the GCR has the only mainline double track an when the 2 parts are reunited it will be the longest

Love this and your thoughts on it Herb. I can't wait to be able to take a trip on a steam train again.
