Ribblehead Viaduct light

Ribblehead Viaduct light
There is something magical about this viaduct.. Even without a spectacular steam train running almost silently atop these arches, this scene just makes you stop and stare. Behind is Whernside and to my left the beginning of Ingleborough mountains. Notice the scale of this from the people at the bottom best seen at full size.
PiPs
Essential full size.

Indeed a scene for which you have to stop to admire it for some time. Great picture series. We lived some years on Ribblesdale ave. in Congleton near the Peak District

Our Victorians were particularly good at that sort of thing -thank goodness and that was besides making things 'proper'.

This is the side that is most impressive emphasising the curve. Great photo

It seems so Colin. I normally have always taken from the other side except when I was walking on the bottom ridge of Whernside. Glad you enjoyed it.

Very well composed Herb...........most photos I've seen of this viaduct have been taken from the side. I like the effect your viewpoint has on the columns and arches. The light is lovely and has brought out some lovely detail in the viaduct and the surrounding landscape. I really like the colour palette too.

More cracking shots in the PiPs......my fave is the first PiP, mainly for the light and colours inthe landscape.

Thanks Keith, as said to Colin above, I think this was the first holiday that i have taken the viaduct from this high side and angle. The light really made it for me though but the long lens shows the nice curve too. - The first PiP is a full photo just before this.

Thanks Toz. The first time I have got a real photo from this side, especially from this p.o.v. My last photo (the pip) as you say is the more tradition side that shows the full expanse. I think there are plus things to both views. - Glad you liked it.

Cheers. Herb

A superb image Herb. In years to come no one will gaze in wonder at the total waste of money called HS2 dreamt up by people who obviously don't travel on trains, money that needs to be spent on more carriages for a start

... Steve Drury introduced me to the Ribblehead Viaduct way back in the Panoramio days (RIP): enthralled then, enthralled now ... great camera location to catch the curve, enhancing all those arches ... really nice ...

... attractive lighting in a somber landscape ...

... PiP#2 -- snowy hillside accentuates the scene ... (hmm, fellside?) ...
