Kneževo, my little town
Kneževo is a city settlement and headquarters of the municipality of the same name in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located on the slopes of mountain Vlašić. It was founded in 1463. It is located 50 km southeast of Banja Luka with which it is connected by the main road M-56. It is located at an altitude of 864 meters and is rich in middling and bushy forests.The municipality itself covers an area of 360 km², with about 10,500 inhabitants. In the municipality of Kneževo, there are many tombstones and stone monuments.From the 17th and 18th centuries we find a number of wooden churches, interesting, local architecture. The most famous ones are in the Javorani (St. Nicholas) and in the Imljani (St. Ilija), which the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of BiH has registered as a cultural heritage. In the Church of St. Ilija in Imljani, a valuable relic, known as the grandfather's staff, is preserved, for which the local population believes that the staff of the saint, after which the church was named.
