The ciborium above the altar, built before 1150, is the oldest in Apulia. Four columns of ancient marble, the front in red breach, the back in purple breach, support the canopy, consisting of two pyramidal tibers with an octagonal base overlapped, supported by two sets of columns with articulated capitals. The work takes up a Roman motif, thus explicitly affirming references to classicism. The capitals that conclude the columns dating from the third decade of the twelfth century are splendid. The front ones bear angular figures of angels, the rear ones are decorated, one with pròtomi of ram and birds, the other with plant motifs.
