They show up here unpredictably in flocks, mostly in the winter.

I don't think they breed this far north. In Lexington was a small pond on land that was not touched by anyone in the park where our trailer was. Every year in September I was able to watch several small groups of them when the young birds started fending for themselves. It was wonderful to hide behind a bush wearing my green jacket.

Audubon seems to suggest they can be found almost anywhere in North America - at least occasionally. This article suggests they sometimes get drunk.
