So you took the picture from a boat?

No Volker. There is a towpath running the length of the tunnel. It does get a bit dark, so we rarely walk through the whole tunnel.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. This is the second photo relating to narrowboats I've seen today. And this as I read the book The Narrowboat Summer by Anne Youngson and literally today looked up online if I could ride in a narrowboat when I come to England next year. And now ipernity is filled with them! The book describes the tunnels and your photo helps complete the picture for me. Cool that there is a tow path through that one. I'm assuming they don't all have one inside the tunnel, but maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks for posting this. It's a great photo on its own and just sparks my interest just that much more.

I'll be posting a photo that shows part of the towpath, and you are right not all canal tunnels have towpaths i n them. If you want a truly amazing experience try en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontcysyllte_Aqueduct which the Chirk aqueduct is part of.

Oh! I thought it carried a train - and now I see it carries water over water! Strange and wonderful. And now I have too much information - mortar, lime, water and ox blood! Crazy!!
