Thank you all. Strictly speaking these are air bubbles trapped in an ice puddle, Tomas. Interesting to look at though. :)

Not many folks bother to look at ice puddles, but if you see one, just have a closer look instead of treading on it until the ice cracks. Take the photo first, then stamp on the ice to listen to the satisfactory noise. :-)
