If you have ever wondered how your ipernity account and images become picked by global search engines like Google, then hopefully this helps you to understand.

Anything you publish with no restrictions get a status "Visible by: Everyone". It really means it is public on internet and it can not be restricted by any settings. What is public is then public. You can only set some local restrictions here on this page:

https://www.ipernity.com/pref/privacy

There you can say no to "Appear in the ipernity search results?", but that still does not affect on what is public outside for anonymous users and for global search engines.

If you really want to disappear from anonymous users and global search engines, then you have to define all your contents as private and share them only with friends and family. Even then your pseudonym showed on your own ipernity front page and on all other public pages will be visible to anonymous users and to global search engines.

This means that your pseudonym will become connected to any public images where you comment, and all your images you contribute on public groups will also turn as public.

Some examples. If I make a Google image search with word 'serola', I get somewhat all my public images showed there, but also public images of other ipernity users where I have commented, and also some private images of mine, which I have shared on public ipernity groups.

This is also how ipernity has always worked. So, there is no any recent change on this. I hope this helps to explain how things work here and on internet. If you really want to keep your images as private and hide from global search engines, then you have to share your images with friends and family only, and even avoid sharing them on public ipernity groups.
