I'm very happy that ipernity is the People’s Choice Winner in the Photo Sharing category of the Mashable 2nd Annual Open Web Award (the Blogger’s Choice Winner is flickr, though). I don't know the relevance of the Mashable site, nor do I know the meaning of "People's Choice", but I think ipernity deserves that bit more recognition.

I have three (!) friends (that in 2008 alone all had attended the flickr Bremen group meetups more than once) who have deleted their flickr account recently (and burned their paid "pro"). But they all came back with new accounts. I'm not discussing their reasons to quit here, but one of them told me yesterday that the reason to come back was because "flickr is a great free webspace". I was shocked, because I think that as a free webspace ipernity is soo much better.

I myself didn't delete my flickr account. I just stopped using it about two month ago. And after a break, on November, 3rd (day#0), I didn't come back, but moved on to ipernity instead. I liked it here from the very first day. Ipernity is more virtual (it doesn't have Bremen group meetups yet), but the community is very polite and very cool (and very french -- I like that, too, and I'm glad I can read french).

So now, ipernity being the People’s Choice winner (beating flickr in the final), I feel acknowledged myself.
