do you know your roses?

Roses are very pretty but I know absolutely nothing about them I'm afraid, just that some of them smell divine.

I'd leave them to open themselves. Ask John next door what he suggests

I'm inclined to agree with you on that Mickey. The Sun, is about the same as our Danish Tabloid "Extra Bladet" filled with sensation rubbish.

Ack, you are hoping for assistance...and so it's the blind leading the blind! But WAIT, not really! I may not know roses, but I am very familiar with the research end, as I like to inform my visitors of the flowers I photograph...well, I did with a previous project that gave me more time...it was a project where I took pictures of each of the new flowers I discovered on my property and then gave information about them. With my 365 project, I can't afford the time!

After searching all over the place, I can't find any mention that you should cut off ANY of those rose buds! Only after they have bloomed should you cut them. In fact, *I* should be doing that it seems...my roses are just done but apparently you can get them to continue blooming by pruning the dead flowers off! :) GOOD LUCK! :)

I was always taught that to have less roses but larger, more glorious roses, to cut the buds away from the ones in center. For example, should you have a 3 bud end. You would remove the bud on either end to allow the middle bud to receive all the natural resources the plant has to offer. That rose will live longer and look better. Of course, this is a matter of choice. You can have more by not touching them. But they will be smaller and a bit less glorious. Or you can have fewer, but larger roses. I usually leave them alone but do try to remember to dead head the ones dying. The more of that you have (dying buds) the more they take away from the health of the new. Going by the pic you show, I would take away the 2 smaller ones and leave the 3 larger. Cut them as close to the stem as possible without damaging the stem.. Hope this is helpful.

I will take your line of thought Gracie and nip them in the bud as it were. There is another similar cluster lower down I will give that the same treatment

I'm sure you will post pictures and let us know how it all turns out. From the size of those buds it shouldn't be too long!
