I finally got into the back garden today after weeks of lousy weather. The place is a real mess so I set to with mower to cut the part laughingly called a lawn. I had it nearly cracked when my mower threw a shoe so I had to break for running repairs i.e. change the blades. Even then a lot of it was too much for the mower re-shod or not. I brought the Bosch strimmer into action which cuts through almost anything but it is messy. I finally finished that side and moved to the really rough area where the fruit bushes grow , maybe I should say fruit bushes and brambles because they are taking over. I haven't been able to get on this side for a couple of months because it has been mostly flooded so a big push was needed. The top area was soon cleared but when I got to the bottom where the gooseberry bushes are I came to a halt. there were two spiders guarding the gap around the bushes, one at the front and one at the back. They had made such beautiful big webs it would have been wrong to disturb them. Hunting must have been poor this year so I wished them good luck and after taking some bark off my hand on a bramble moved on.
This brought me to the wall at the end of the path overgrown to the height of a couple of foot in the centre. I was just about to unleash the strimmer on it when I saw the grass move. I carefully put the strimmer down and clutching my camera followed the moving grass and finally I caught sight of a little frog,he was very lucky if he had not moved when he did he would have been mangled. So I left him in peace and that area untouched as well, that was me done apart from cleaning and storing the tools before I washed out the bird feeder and bath for my feathered friends. I didn't get as much done as I would have liked but at least I finished a good part of it and did my bit for the little creatures. Now I have a pint of orange with a blob of vanilla ice cream in it and all is right with the world. Photos posted. Click here.
