I thought it would be nice to go down to West Appledore where it was quiet because it being a Bank Holiday weekend, that meant that anywhere else would be teeming and also costly to park (if there were any spaces). West Appledore was gorgeously quiet, it's only the locals who would know about it, so I parked the car and sat on the bench and looked out to the sea.
The tide was on its way in, and at that place the tide comes in very quickly .....
There was a dog all excited with a ball already in its mouth just waiting for his humans to sort themselves out then he could get to more important things, like chasing his ball and jumping into the sea!!!
Suddenly the peace was shattered by the sound of a tractor!!! The lifeboat station was the building I was sitting by, and there had been a shout and so the lifeboatmen were all running down to the station and there was a rubber dinghy already attached to the tractor......
All the men jumped into the dinghy and the tractor backed down the slipway to put it into the water. The man then drove up the slipway quickly and sort of abandoned the tractor at the top, and ran down the slipway to get into the dinghy. They shot off to the main lifeboat...
Peace reigned again at the slipway and people started getting back to where they'd been sitting before being moved on quickly.....
This was an ideal place for dogs and children alike to enjoy the warm sun and the cool water - although judging by the screams when the children went into the water, I'd say it was pretty cold.....
The trimaran which had been beached when I arrived, was now floating in the water. The tide comes in very quickly along this coast, probably because the land is so flat here......
Then I heard the main lifeboat start up and then it whizzed off upstream to some call out....
For the first time this year I actually felt hot and it was so nice just sitting there all nice and relaxed. Then I saw my neighbour Richard walking along with his mum, who lives in Appledore, they were going for a walk to Westward Ho! - taking his dog Freya for a lovely walk....
You can't see them in this picture, but that's Westward Ho! in the distance. As you can see, the water has almost completely covered the mud and sand......
What a gorgeous view to just look at and no busy crowds to distract me....
Meanwhile the were now a few more dogs enjoying the sea, and I could see there was a current starting in the middle of the water - which would have been very dangerous if anyone was swimming out there.
Oh well it was soon time to wend my way home - I am so lucky to live so close to some wonderful views. Hope you all had a great weekend.
Jenny McIntyre club has replied to GracieYes there are many places along your coast where one must wtch for he turbibg tide or be caught out sitting on a lonely rock til it goes out again.
Jenny McIntyre club has replied to Stormlizard clubGracie - With our road systems, that would be quite a journey, and a long one too. Just so you know.
