During my stay in Berlin I visited the Zitadelle Spandau and the old town. By a lucky break at the first place I got the opportunity to watch the "Berlin Retrospective" Exhibition of John Bellany, for sure one of the most important Scottish painters since the II World War. He is a great figurative painter with some abstract outline, a genius! I believe that throughout his career he was influenced by different themes. So far the recurrent theme at this retrospective exhibition is the human condition, mainly in a pessimistic and moving state, very compatible with the Edvard Munch´s anguish.
Again by chance, in the old center of Spandau, at the Gotic House, I succeeded in watching another surprising German artist, Uwe Tabatt, strongly inspired by a definite decorative effect of the art in our lives and the environment. He is a painter, he is a sculptor, he uses diverse materials and techniques for the making of frequent installations as well. In a word he is creative and reaches very high performances and quality standards. His first main theme at this exhibition is the human body in its natural condition, very close to the earth but, simultaneously, flying enigmatic and beautiful forms towards the cosmos. His second theme is the urban environment. Whole quarters of skyscrapers go up through the walls where they are plotted or move along mobile platforms. I got the opportunity in meeting Uwe personally and to tell him my feelings upon his artistic greatness.

Durante a minha estada em Berlim visitei a Cidadela Spandau e a cidade velha. Sem querer, no primeiro local, tive a oportunidade de visitar a Exposição "Retrospectiva de Berlim" de John Bellany, por certo um dos mais importantes pintores Escoceses desde a II Guerra Mundial. É um enorme pintor figurativo com laivos abstractizantes, um génio! Acredito que através da sua carreira foi influenciado por diversos temas. Tão longe quanto posso ir, o tema recorrente nesta retrospectiva é a condição humana, principalmente num estádio pessimístico e comovente, por certo compatível com a angústia de Edvard Munch.
De novo por acaso, no centro histórico de Spandau, na Casa Gótica, sucedi em observar outro artista Alemão, Uwe Tabatt, fortemente inspirado por um definitivo efeito decorativo da arte nas nossas vidas e no ambiente. Ele é pintor, ele é escultor, e também usa diversos materiais e técnicas para construir frequentes instalações. Numa palavra é um criativo que atinge elevadas formas de expressão e qualidade. O seu primeiro tema nesta exposição é o corpo humano na sua condição natural, muito próximo da terra mas, simultaneamente, voando enigmáticas e belas formas em direcção ao cosmos. O seu segundo tema é o urbanismo. Bairros inteiros de arranha-céus sobem pelas paredes onde estão fixados ou circulam em plataformas móveis. Tive a oportunidade de conhecer pessoalmente o Uwe e de lhe transmitir o meu muito apreço pela sua grandiosidade artística.
