Cole Porters wrote the music and lyrics for the 1934 Broadway musical "Anything Goes". In the show it was sung by Ethel Merman. "You're the Top" and "I Get a Kick Out of You" were also in the show. Initially the show was called "Crazy Week" as a working title, then "Hard to Get" before settling on " Anything Goes". Two years after it's New York debut Paramount turned Anything Goes into a movie again starring Ethel Merman. This time Bing Crosby, Ida Lupino, Charles Ruggles, Arthur Treacher, and Margaret Dumont were added to the cast. This is the original version of "Anything Goes " featuring George singing at the piano.
In 1967 Harpers Bizarre (Ted Templeman, Dick Scoppettone, Tom Sowell, Eddie James,
Dick Yount and John Petersen) released this updated cover as a follow-up to Paul Simon's "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)". This Leon Russell arrangement peaked in the top twenty in April.
