The Crickets (Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison and Joe Mauldin) featuring Buddy Holly (Holley) recorded "Maybe Baby" (Holly - Petty) for the album "The Chirping Crickets" in 1957. It reached the top forty charts almost everywhere the next year. Some labels list the composers as "Petty - Holly - Allison" while some releases list just Buddy Holly as the act.
Buddy was on the Coral Label while The Crickets were on the Brunswick roster. Having said all that, both these versions were recorded in the same 1957 session. The version of "Maybe Baby" here was not released until 1983's "For the First Time Anywhere" album.
