This reminds me of Maghreb and Middle East butchers, displaying dromedaries' and goats' meat, exposed to flies. Probably flies are not a problem in Hunza, considering the altitude. HFF, Diana!

What a great photo, I love the Yak tail;-) This looks quite similar to butchers on the Altiplano.
In Western civilisations people are squeamish and don't want to see any traces of the animal their meat once was....

This scene reminds me of a documentary I saw recently about the hard life of many Mongolians. I admire their originality and their abilities. They are far ahead of most of us, yet they are often discriminated against.

Ein gewohnter Anblick für mich. Vor dreißig Jahren hatten noch viele Menschen auf dem Land in Ostdeutschland Schlachttiere, die hinterm Haus oder in der Waschküche geschlachtet worden. Auch heute gibt es noch diese Art der Schlachtung, besonders bei Jägern und Kleintierhaltern. Ich hatte selber 10 Jahre einen EU Schlachthof in meinem Landwirtschaftsbetrieb. Dort mussten wir allerdings unvergleichlich höhere Hygienebestimmungen einhalten. Egal ob sinnvoll oder nicht. Hauptsache es ist nicht zu warm, es sind keine Fliegen dort und Werkzeuge sowie Hände sind keimarm sauber bei der Verarbeitung.

Remember in Africa we could recognize meat sold along the roads because it was covered with flies. Therefore long time stewed with spices to kill all germs. Not the case here and it looks tempting.
