Southwark's public artworks
Folder: Public artworks - art in public open spaces
I lived and worked in Southwark for about 40 years. I discovered that no central record of the public artworks was kept by the Council, so I tried to photograph as many as possible. I haven't added much in the way of descriptions, but by recording the artist and location, where known, I hope you can find more information by searching on line.

Some images in this collage have appeared here already, but I have added some wider shots. The 'full stop' is depicted in shapes derived from different fonts, although there seem to be more fonts named than there are sculptures.

Burgess Park was created in the 1960s to provide a very large open space among the large blocks of flats and old terraced streets, between Camberwell Road, in the west, and Old Kent Road, in the east.

A collage of photos which have appeared singly previously. Art on the Cart was an initiative by Southwark Council's Arts Team, to transport artworks into every corner of the borough.
Brunel letter memorial - 23.3.2014

This is supposedly the first element of a larger sculpture, with a fifteen foot image of the great engineer made out of bullhead rail being the main feature. I think that there is a funding issue holding up that part. Brunel built the first tunnel under the Thames and the Brunel Museum is near this sculpture, which stands close to the entrance to the Rotherhithe (road) Tunnel. That one he didn't build.
I don't know where the 'hot carved plates' fit into this work. I picked this up from a local news item.

"The bust of King Haakon ... is a variation of the large statue of King Haakon located outside of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo. The statue was sculpted by Nils Aas, and the bust in London was fashioned in close cooperation with Mr Aas’s son, architect Atle Aas" Quotation from the 'London Remembers' website
