Pear blossom

Pear blossom
This old tree only flowers and bears fruit every other year. The pears are big and juicy and are wonderful dessert pears. Hoping the blossom sets and there is a crop this year.

Some of our Bartletts do that too, only produce a crop every other year.

Ron..... if I had to bet on it I would say this was a Bartlett.

Absolutely perfect dessert pears.. I cooked in quarters and froze in the juice and they are gorgeous.

I did a few in wine too !

Now remember that I never claimed to be smart, but I just never knew that pear trees had flower blossoms as well...same as peach trees. I guess you can teach an old dog.

I have crabapples that blossom only every other year. I was not aware that it was the same for pears.

Esther... it depends here very much on the amount of rain we have. This tree almost dyed after 8 years drought...

I have had 2 fruiting years.. then last year flowers and no fruit.. this year.. its groaning with fruit !
