An unusual string of Buoys that makes me wonder what the purpose of them is,

The buoys are to warn boats off a huge pile of very large and heavy granite boulders that are in the shallow water along the shore...........they are being kept there until they're needed as part of the sea defence repairs which are currently being undertaken.

I agree..........it's lovely to have some decent weather for a change!

Hybrid energy - My wife's car has that, but I wonder what it means in a ship.

I think it means pretty much the same Ronald. According to the company they work much like a hybrid energy car, allowing them to run partly on electricity when required. There are plans to introduce completely electric ferries in due course. At least it's a start in the right direction!
