And it was this big !

And it was this big !
A day when I plucked my eyebrows, checked my bank account, payed my road tax and set Roomba going downstairs while I went to the Pillars for milk and bread. I parked at a distance from the shop to get in some walking and was half way there when I realised my mask was back in the car. So a bit more walking than I intended . Starting out again I was behind three people who walked abreast right across the roadway, stopped while one went to peer into a cottage window, looked as if they might move on then another had to look in the window and return to stand in the road and then the third had to peek too. Eventually they noticed me but even then I had to cross the road and walk on a very muddy verge to keep clear of them. I did actually speak up about their inability to understand what two metres or six feet was but as I didn't sound grumpy I 'm not sure they got it. Thankfully they weren't going into the shop. Afterwards I went to Birnie. It had rained all day so I thought there would be fewer people and there were. The plan was to photograph birds but I had forgotten to bring bird food. What an idiot ! Had a bit more of a walk instead and ended up entranced by the patterns of water and melting ice. Got distant shots of a heron and back at the car park stood photographing a group of distant ducks for ages. Oh, and snowdrops. Came home and learned that ducks eat anything including crawfish, frogs, newts, beetles and fish. And here am I thinking they were vegetarian for eighty two years

To be honest... I also thought that ducks only eat bread. ;)

Great capture! Like you, Jean I thought the only duck (well, close relative) that ate fish was the cormorant! Live and learn!
And like you, I get so fed up with people like that but I envy you. Here, the Spanish have absolutely ZERO idea of social distancing. For them it is an impossibility. Might as well forbid breathing!

It's a mix here. Some people haven't a clue while others abide by the rules. I met a family at Birnie later in the day and they stood back to let me pass at the same time as I stood back for them. The boy who was about eight said "Thank you" which was sweet. I always thank people too when they make an effort.

The effect of the melting ice is beautiful Jean. One duck wasn't camera shy! A real show-off :)
I knew they ate insects, water snails and worms, but had no idea about the frogs and crawfish! As I often say, we learn something new on here every day!

Oh Jean! How I laughed to read your story! Because...OMG people!! How many times have Steve and I been walking somewhere...or in a store or whatever and it's like...HELLO? There are OTHER PEOPLE on the planet who need to get around too! You guys are walking viruses! MAKE ROOM FOR OTHERS!! And then...omg they are so rude! And inconsiderate! I loved that you spoke up about it too...just like Steve--he barks at anyone who has a "chin mask" on "COVER YOUR NOSE!" etc., etc. You are not alone! :D Also, the march back to the car to get one's mask. BEEN THERE! It's not easy. Part of it is the staggering shock of just how awful people are...it's not just the few we once believed, is it? If there's anything this pandemic has taught us, it's that people are really stupid, really selfish, really horrible. Not all of them but plenty.

Anyway, I loved your picture today! It reminded me of a picture Steve took, and also one that I took! I've linked them for you if you would like to see...and I hope you have a GREAT day! :D

I think it's shouting "me, me photograph me!"

Lovely light and reflections on this partly iced over stretch of water.........the cold blue tones are gorgeous. I love the posing duck of course!

Very nicely captured Jean.

I had forgotten my mask so many times that about a month ago, I bought a few disposable ones.........I now carry some in my camera bag, some in the glove compartment of the car and Jackie has a few in her handbag. I'm pleased to report that since then, neither of us has forgotten our masks :-)))

I'm not too bad on the masks but a few disposable ones in my jacket pockets would be a good fall back.

I think I need to buy a few disposable ones too and keep them in jacket pockets.

I keep spare disposable masks in a pocket for each coat that I could conceivsbly wear and each shoulder bag, rucksack and have them hanging on doorhandles on my path to the front door ... and I STILL sometimes leave the house without one and have to shamefacedly trudge back! The furthest I got maskless was the 2 km walk to the bus stop at 6:30 am (dark and people-less). I realised just as the bus approached and so had to walk back home all the way uphill, grab a mask, go back down, miss the next two buses and was late for my hospital appointment.
Lesson learned!
