Grotte der Egeria - Wörlitzer Park
In der Südostecke des Wörlitzer Parks steht die künstliche Grotte der Egeria. Sie wurde 1790 gebaut und befindet sich gegenüber der kleinen Insel Stein. Die Grotte ist der Quellnymphe Egeria aus der alt-römischen Mythologie gewidmet. Es handelt sich um eine Kopie der gleichnamigen Grotte in Rom.
Die Figur ist der römischen Mythologie zufolge mit dem frührömischen König Numa Pompilius assoziiert, dem sie zu einer weisen Regierung verhalf. Das antike Nymphäum der Egeria an der Via Appia nahe der Porta Capena in Rom diente als Vorbild für die Gestaltung der künstlichen Ruine.
