Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash Perseid Meteor Shower

This image was taken with my 12/1957 vintage Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash 620 camera. It was shot during the Perseid Meteor Shower of August 12th, 2009.

I had my camera mounted securely and facing toward the western sky. Over the lens I placed some black tape and taped the shutter release in the bulb open position. When I got ready to start the exposure, I carefully removed the tape from over the lens and allowed the film to be exposed for exactly 1 hour, hoping to catch at least one good meteor somewhere within the frame. If you look closely, you'll be able to see the trails the stars left behind and they are the lines running straight up and down. The meteor trails cross these lines, starting from the upper right to lower left. And if you look real close, you'll see that I managed to capture at least 6 distinct meteor trails. I was really fortunate because things like this can be hit or miss. There are some fainter ones and then that really bright one at the left side of the image. I was amazed it turned out so well!

For a 53 year old camera, I think it performed very admirably. To get it scanned in, I had to adjust my scanner to extremes; so the colors might not be accurate.
