LA CASA TURRITA
La “Casa turrita” è da tutti erroneamente conosciuta come la “Torre di Teodolinda”. Ma i caratteri strutturali e il materiale impiegato permettono di stabilire che la costruzione non è anteriore al secolo XV e, pertanto, ogni riferimento alla regina dei Longobardi è da considerarsi frutto di fantasia. Nel 1630 fu verosimilmente questa struttura a ospitare la Corte ducale dei Savoia, trasferitasi a Santhià durante un’epidemia di peste scoppiata a Torino. In tale circostanza, Santhià fu risparmiata dal contagio, cosicché anche la Zecca e il Senato sabaudo si trasferirono nel nostro centro e vi rimasero fino a quando il contagio non si esaurì. THE TURRETED HOUSE
The “Turreted House” is mistakenly known by all as the “Tower of Theodolinda.” But the structural features and the material used make it possible to establish that the building does not predate the 15th century and, therefore, any reference to the queen of the Lombards is to be considered a figment of the imagination. In 1630 it was probably this structure that housed the Ducal Court of the Savoy family, which moved to Santhià during a plague epidemic that broke out in Turin. In that circumstance, Santhià was spared from the contagion, so that the Mint and the Savoy Senate also moved to our center and remained there until the contagion wore off. (Source Proloco)
