Spotted on a walk on the chalk downs in our village. They are difficult to photograph as they feel the footfall of anyone approaching and fly off immediately. you need to stand still and wait for one to land near you.
Bee Orchid

|
Spotted on a walk on the chalk downs in our village. This orchid is usually only found on chalk downland and is not that common. Apparently it imitates a type of bee that became extinct during the last Ice Age !

Spotted on a walk on the chalk downs in our village. I think it is a beetle rather than a moth, but can anyone identify this ? (There is some Quaking Grass on the left of the picture).
