The Whitehall Building: a 20-story skyscraper located at 17 Battery Place, across the street from Battery Park in lower Manhattan. The original building was constructed from 1902-1904 as a speculative office building designed by architect Henry Hardenbergh. It was named for Peter Stuyvesant's 17th century home, "White Hall", which had been located nearby. It was converted to apartments in 1999. Style: Renaissance Revival / Anglo-ltalianate. Simultaneous with Beaux-Arts Classicism was the closely related architectural style called the Second Renaissance Revival (circa 1890-1930), which focused on the more orderly qualities of the Italian Renaissance, rather than the often flamboyant pictorialism associated with the high Beaux-Arts style. McKim, Mead & White were the leaders in the use of this style, as well as of the movement called the American Renaissance.

I would like never live in such formatted habitats. But my garden probably distorts my perception... ;)

Construit en 1892 par l’architecte Chausson pour accueillir un premier restaurant, l’édifice fut complètement modifié deux ans plus tard par l’architecte Paul Marbeau pour l’ouverture d’une brasserie alsacienne : Au roi de la Bière, tenue par un certain Jacqueminot Graff. Avec sa cigogne perchée sur la cheminée, ses pans de bois, ses briques et son blason de Strasbourg cette vraie fausse maison de ville alsacienne détonne au milieu de ce quartier parisien typiquement haussmannien. Aujourd’hui, même si la brasserie a été remplacée par un McDo, Gambrinus le roi de la bière trône toujours fièrement au milieu de la façade où il lève sa chope en signe d’invitation à venir déguster non plus une pinte mais un soda. Selon la légende Gambrinus était un carillonneur des Flandres françaises, qui suite à une déception amoureuse passa un pacte avec le diable qui lui proposa en échange de son âme d’oublier la belle ainsi que des graines de houblon qui produisirent une bière délicieuse. C’est ainsi que Gambrinus devint le « roi de la bière », un personnage important des festivités dans le nord de la France et en Belgique. (piqué sur gavroche-père-et-fils )

Triptyque atypique et asymétrique... (un peu azimuté, l'architecte ! ;)

Un morceau de cette "Vraie Croix" fut conservé comme relique dans la cathédrale. L’édifice est achevé vers 450. Au XIe siècle l'église est reconstruite en style roman pour en faire une cathédrale. Achevée au XIIe siècle, elle s'effondre en partie en 1227. Une nouvelle reconstruction en style gothique est entreprise du XIIIe au XIVe siècle. L'église de l'Annonciation de Corte est une église de style baroque du XVe siècle associée à un campanile. Dédiée à l'Annonciation, elle est inscrite aux monuments historiques depuis le 2 mai 1973. En 1655 elle est remaniée et agrandie. Les chapelles du côté ouest sont abattues et remplacées par une nef latérale qui enclave le vieux clocher (campanile) dans la nouvelle construction. L'église abrite dans la chapelle latérale San Teòfalu, le gisant (effigie en cire du musée Grévin, 1979 - voir PIP 3) de Blaise de Signori, frère franciscain considéré comme le seul saint corse, reconnu comme patron de la Corse. Mobilier : L'église possède un orgue du XVIIIe siècle [PIP 2] dont la partie instrumentale a été classée à titre objet des monuments historiques le 11 septembre 1978. Ancienne chapelle de confrérie, datée de 1634, de style baroque italien, la chapelle se situe sous la citadelle, en haut de la rampe Sainte-Croix partant du cours Paoli. L'édifice religieux est inscrit depuis le 6 septembre 1985 Monument Historique pour ses somptueux décors extérieurs et ses précieuses fresques intérieures. La chapelle recèle deux œuvres inscrites aux monuments historiques : un orgue de tribune et la tribune d'orgue, du XIXe siècle (voir PIP).
