What a beautiful scene Carol and I love the PiP. Dating from 1200, it's a wonder any of it is standing, but it does look magnificent.

It is a beautiful location but the castle does have quite a history, including the 'roasting' of an abbot to force him to sign papers giving abbey lands to Gilbert, the 4th Earl. Fortunately he survived the ordeal but Gilbert kept the lands

Oh, what an awesome view, I watched "Outlander", so I should have seen it. HBM Carol.

Thank you Christa. I think a lot of locations were used in the series including Dunure castle and also the village harbour were transformed into a port used in the series. I have watched a couple of the series myself but must go back and watch the rest now!

The 4th Earl, Gilbert, entertained Mary Queen of Scots here. He was not averse to acquiring land by any means available and seized lands belonging to Glenluce Abbey using forged documents and then hired an assassin to murder the forger. He then covered his tracks by having the assassin hanged on trumped up charges of theft. Turning his sights on Crossraguel Abbey he tortured Commendator of Crossraguel by roasting him on a spit over a fire until he signed over the land. Fortunately he lived but the land was retained by the 4th Earl.
