The factory was founded in 1934 for the production of Hydronalium. It operated as magnesite works from 1947 to 1990. The refractory bricks are cooked in kilns at high temperatures up to about 1800 °C in order to create the crystalline magnesium oxide (MgO). The bricks were then used to coat blast furnaces, converters for steelworks and other furnaces, or thanks to their heat storage properties, used as accumulation cores. The remains of three such long kilns can be found in this hall.

Knappschafts-Heilstätte The sanatorium opened in 1898 and closed in 1997, it had 155 beds. Since the 1960's it has been used for paraplegics.

A huge railway workshop in Czechia with its own power plant. This is the boiler house with 3 boilers, converted from coal to gas. The company with 230 workers became bankrupt in 2011.

Built in Art Deco style in 1914, closed 2007 - transformer and switchgear building.

When it originally opened in 1914, the Power Station was one of the most advanced power centers in all of Europe, however it will likely be better remembered for its ornate Art Deco architecture than its technological wonder. Parts are still used, except the old transformer buildings and the Art Deco control room.

Built in Art Deco style in 1914, closed 2007 - transformer and switchgear building. The small bunker in the centre is providing protection from the threat of falling glass if an explosion were to have ruptured the magnificent glass ceiling. It was built during the WWII.

The Zollverein colliery was an active coal mine in Essen from 1851 to 1986. It was named after the German Zollverein, founded in 1834. Today it is an architectural and industrial monument.
