Heads from the north

Dadang Christanto, 2004. Sculture in the Garden of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. This sculpture is a memorial to an Indonesian military coup in which his father died, in September 1965. It is a collection of sixty-six carved heads. (see note)

vênus interrompida

As I was walking through the corridors of the Arts Centre at my university, I found the former Academic Directorate in disarray. The door was open, the inside trashed and covered in confusing graffiti, and right in the middle of the room, this knotted Venus. Immediately came to mind the image of a beautiful woman trapped inside the nightmare that is needed to hide, stifle, her beauty by being a victim of sexism. It is for these women victims of sexism, even veiled, that I dedicate this image. (see note)
