The Old Man of Calke , the oldest tree on the estate is thought to be around 1,200 years old I wonder what it has seen in those years, the path by it was specially made to avoid visitors compacting the soil around it's roots, fortunately it is well away from the carpark so not to many venture out there. Many of the trees on the estate are classed as ancient

B & W hides the modern buildings in the background but I think overall colour gives a better feel of the ruins

Some of the shops in Ashby-de-la-Zouch had live mannequins in their windows I couldn't resist a photo of this lovely young lady from the street reflections were a problem so I finished up up the shop the green and ivy leaves a because Ashby is in the National forest

I think the background is to clear I had a zoom lens with me the aperture was f5.2 I have a 50mm f1.2 I will try that sometime to see if that gives the right effect, the other option is wait for a very foggy day !!

Fortunately the phantom knitter has a sense of humour the magnificent owl (Air Mail) was stolen on the other side of the road is the old village lock up about 1800 probably some of the people thrown in there had nothing and succumbed to the temptation to steal a scrap of food
