I visited there a couple of years ago, but no pictures.
As for the columns, if the railway architects have a design which works, why not keep using it.

Ornate and very beautiful. It looks as if it might be a devil to keep clean though, particularly in the days of steam! Lovely to see these wonderful old features though, and I am sure they are still enjoyed by visitors.

Yes I suspect back in the BR steam days the overall colour of these awnings would have been grey! The cafe and souvenir shop on the left brings in the tourists probably more than the trains!
