Towering over a remote canyon in southern Utah stands the imposing layered mountain, Gingham Skirts Butte. For a brief period of time in the late 1800s Mormon settlers attempted to eke out a living in this inhospitable but beautiful terrain, eventually abandoning their homestead to the harsh elements. It is noteworthy that there are no pines on Pine Mountain.
