No, it means not sensing the remotest resemblance to a Constable painting.

I've never seen a constable painting, at least one in uniform and on duty.

That reminds me of the time I took Eric for a walk and we saw a poster advertising a pig roast up at Binsey. On the way back, we noticed two coppers standing by a small gazebo on Mount Place. Eric had expressed an interest in the "friendly" way our police operate compared to those in Canada, so I suggested we go over for a chat.

"Hello," I said. "Are you having a garden party?"
"No," said the copper. "We're giving out leaflets."
"Oh, I thought you might be roasting a pig."

I did feel slightly unconstable when I realised what I'd said.

At Fawley Hill (here) on Sunday, out of the 15 or more food outlets at the Steam Fair, for lunch I chose the hog roast, out of compassion for the poor late pig, my not wanting it to have died for nothing.

I have never used that term to a policeman's face or his back.
