Trees 25

Trees 25
Arbutus, or Pacific Madrone, are magnificent trees that grow in the dry southeast regions of Vancouver Island. They are very distinctive trees and beautiful to photograph. The bark is thin, smooth, and reddish-brown, peeling in thin flakes or strips to expose younger, smooth, greenish to cinnamon-red bark underneath.

Elfriede, Marco F. Delminho, raingirl, appo-fam have particularly liked this photo

wait - are you a pacific northwesterner (hmm, maybe Vancouver Island isn't considered "northwest" because it's a southern part of Canada)? we are a small but cool crowd of ipernity members.

I didn't know the Madrone grew up there. I've only seen them in Portland and in California.
Love this photo of them. It is hard to photograph them so the bark shows as wonderfully as it is in person, don't you think? Great colors here.

I grew up in Vancouver and moved to Victoria 20 years ago, so we are neighbours! I've visited Seattle and Portland and hope to travel again (don't we all)!!

Hi neighbor! And yes, we are itching to travel. Vancouver and Victoria are both places we enjoy travelling to. Perhaps one day our paths will cross.
