Fresh Water Flows Directly Into Saltwater

This shot also had previously been on Panoramio, and my comment then was: I thought this was an unusual scene, because in most East Coast sandy-beach areas, fresh water makes its way to the ocean via estuaries, bays or meandering through marshes. Here, a fresh water stream pours out of a fresh water lake at the foot of a remnant of a mature coast-hardwood forest, cuts through the dunes, and riffles its way directly across the beach. Unfortunately, the forest and lake and this stream are all gone: bulldozed to make way for a tourist resort; a true historical and ecological disaster. Archive Airings.....AA 276......Years Ago.

Iconic Shoreline Forest, Marsh, & Swale

This little series is an Environmentalist's Lament at New Years. Shot a dozen years ago, almost to the day, everything you see here was bulldozed for a Myrtle Beach resort hotel. Absolutely unique and irreplaceable; now gone. Previously posted on Panoramio, this is what I said then: Less than 100 meters from the ocean, all the water here is totally fresh water; flowing out of woodlands in the back. --- I took this shot at the very end of 2005, and then 5 years later intermittently spent hours on GoogleEarth, looking for a patch of woods, trying to correctly locate it. I knew I had shot it from the beach, north of 28th Avenue. This is such a beautiful and iconic piece of remnant southeastern shoreline woodland and marsh; and it is truly tragic and environmentally devastating that it has been destroyed. Archive Airings.....AA 276......Years Ago.
