My Grandfather, The Brewmaster ... a photo of an old family heirloom portrait.

Born 1865 Oppeln, Silesia. Master Brewmaster in New York and Maryland breweries from 1896 to 1940. Died 1941 Cumberland Maryland.

(Obituary says born in "Oppelian"; my Mother always told me Breslau.)

Martine, Nouchetdu38, ColRam, Karp Panta and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Von Oppeln bis Breslau sind es weniger als 100km. Nach amerikanischen Größenmaßstäben kann also Oppeln als Vorort von Breslau gelten?

Probably in early 1900's family story-telling, "near Breslau" became shortened through time to just "Breslau".
In U.S, east of the Mississippi River, 60 miles/100 kilometers is a discernable distinct distance; west of the Mississippi River (The American West) 60 miles/100 kilometers is a minuscule negligible distance.
