Winter mist at Lees

Just a stroll from my home, this fenced bend attracts me like a moth to flame. Taken on the onset of our first snowfall of the winter of 2014/15

Winter of Oldham, March 2016

04 Mar 2016 7 7 393
A walk from my home, this only about 10 minutes away can be a splendid experience, even in Winter. Here we see the results of our first real snows of this 2015/16 Winter and a day after it was almost all gone.

The unstable world: Margerie Glacier

25 May 2016 4 6 322
This magnificent glacier up in glacier Bay, Alaska is shedding its ice continually. This is what glaciers do but this point where the glacier meets the sea is miles inland to what it was just 20 years ago. Frightening! But a delight to witness!

Margerie Glacier and the Park ranger vessel.

25 May 2016 8 7 350
The size of this glacier comes into some prospective when seen with this boat. It sits between our giant cruise ship and the cascading ice itself, presumably to stop us trying to get too close. You know the captains of these cruise ships will do anything for its passengers to get better photos :)

Fun at the Mendenhall Glacier

23 May 2016 10 8 523
The Mendenhall Glacier is a glacier about 13.6 miles long located and in Mendenhall Valley, about 12 miles from downtown Juneau in the southeast area of the U.S. state of Alaska. (Wikipedia)

Lake Agnes

16 May 2016 7 4 422
Otherwise know as 'Lake in the Clouds'. High above Lake Louise, we arrived here mere minutes before these delightful reflections were to disappear for the day. As can be seen, we are above the snow line and ice still covers most of this lake. The first 'tea house' of this national park stands close but unfortunate for us we had no time to explore nor sample it. The lake was so called 'Lake in the Clouds by the 'Stoney Indians'. The present name stems from two famous lady visitors: Agnes Knox -the first white woman to visit the lake and then Lady Agnes Macdonald, wife of Canada's first prime minister who visited a few days later.

Christmas Greetings from Saddleworth

A friendly local Robin gives me an opportunity to wish all my friends and viewers here on Ipernity, A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Herb

A Delph Winter

12 Dec 2017 7 6 400
Delph, one of the small Saddleworth villages not far from my home here in North West England. After an earlier than usual fall of snow and sub-zero temperatures I have the opportunity again to explore in conditions like this. Of course, a shot for the super wide-angle lens here. Enjoy.

A blast of Winter

12 Feb 2018 33 54 615
As the Winter here in Oldham carries on forever, there are some benefits. Here we stroll down one of my local walks which is transformed into a Winter Wonderland. The fence forcing our eye and bodies to continue down the road wondering, "what is around the corner". HFF to all here in Ipernity NB: Late addition, see the PiP in top left for mono version.

A dash of Winter

27 Feb 2018 6 7 406
As another bout of cold weather descends on my home here in NW England, I take the opportunity again to walk my local paths along with my trusty Nikon. This path which seems, for 99% of the year mud bound, is now frozen and has a new layer of white powder snow. The small waterfall, S-curve and lovely green boughs of the pines all go together to make this almost a painting. ps best viewed in full size.

The beast from the East

28 Feb 2018 8 14 406
It came from Siberia! This was yesterday on a local hilly road, today its too bad for me to go get more like this. Joined in our South West today by Storm Emma, they are having much more snow and wind. It's said that we have not faced a Winter like this for two generations. Ah well -makes for exciting photography though. -Taken about 40 mins walk from my home.

Happy Fence Day

12 Feb 2018 24 51 744
Another winter fence, this time taken in my local park. Enjoy

A Winter impression of Saddleworth

28 Feb 2018 17 20 566
As the temp drops well below zero and the wind gets up, we see here the effect of snow being blown from the roof of these typical Saddleworth cottages. I am actually in Greenfield although weather-wise it might have been Siberia.

Christ Church Friezland

28 Feb 2018 10 13 344
A Wintery look at a church that I pass often. Built in 1850 this church still has a healthy congregation. Not many people around today though -could it be something to do with the weather?

Lowry Days

25 Mar 2018 11 20 582
A blast from the past. This old slide taken some forty odd years ago reminds us of the latest past Winter and the old joys of enjoying the snow. This hill has now changed somewhat with new apartments etc covering the top edge and certainly no access to the public any more. The title and photo is reminiscent to the style of our famous Salford artist L.S Lowry. Enjoy.
