Steps to heaven

A fine modern fence guides us up these steps towards the local church. A journey no doubt taken by many local parishioners.
Taken in Propriano, Corisica
Enjoy the weekend

Our ship to explore some of the Mediterranean. Here in the little port of Propriano in Corsica.
Nice jaw structure - you should see its teeth :)
Happy Saturday

Stepping out in, Sartene

|
|
|
An afternoon trip to the mountain village town of Sartene near Propriano brings us to these narrow backstreets, always photogenic to me with these characteristic steps and balconies. Somewhat cooler than the hot squares too.
Nice full screen.

Taken on the way to the old beach of Propriano in Corsica. If I had been really lucky I could have taken a snap of someone seated here with a tree growing out of their head :)
See PiP for the beach scene. Enjoy full screen.
Have a great day.
Iles St Margarete, an Island of tranquillity
|
|
|
|
Cannes, France is not known for its quiet and solitude, rather its extravagant super yachts and film festival but just a few minutes away on the ferry we have this Island. A most wonderful island full of blissful shorelines and bays along with 370 acres of forest filled with umbrella pines and eucalyptus trees plus a network of cool walking paths.
Essential full screen
A little oasis on Iles St Margarete

A natural lake here on the Island is a sanctuary for wild-life. That being said, I saw very little on this quick peep through the fence. The Island just a short 15 minute sail from Cannes, France has 370 acres of forest filled with umbrella pines and eucalyptus trees
Essential full screen.
HBM - A happy bench in Cannes

A quick stroll along the ‘Prom. De la Pantiero’ in Cannes, France, brings us to this Carousel like structure called the ‘Kiosque à musique des Allés de la Liberté’.
A nice round bench too, for the lucky listeners to any music played here.
Enjoy full screen.
Have a great day
Around the corner
Bedecked fences in Cannes

A lovely Bougainvillea makes its home on this series of balconies in the old town of Cannes. It was quite striking when first seen.
Just what these apparent doors on this residential building are doing here, I do not know – perhaps old fire-escapes?
Enjoy the weekend
Marseilles: upside-down
|
|
|
|
“Hang-on to your hats, bags and money as you walk upside down on this sticky ceiling.”
An amazing sight greets us with this large sheltered area here in the city of Marseilles. The roof ceiling is in fact most mirror-like and reflects the world below with little distortion. A tourist ‘must’ for selfies and Ipernity entries but soon one has a slight pain in the neck :)
The pip shows the normal view

A steep very tiring climb up to this church with hundreds of dusty steps in this heat was probably a mistake. The benches very welcome at this half-way point. In fact, the Basilica was so crowded we never went inside. I know – a great shame! A fine view of the city was had from the top though and then we saw the easy roadway up, along the top left ridge here –our way down too. Ah well.
Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, known to local citizens as la Bonne Mère, is a Catholic basilica in Marseille, France, and the city's best-known symbol. The site of a popular Assumption Day pilgrimage, it is the most visited site in Marseille. Its construction started in 1853 and lasted for forty years.
Enjoy full screen.
Have a great day.
Marseilles: fish market
|
|
|
|
A day in this heady city brings us down to the giant marina with this fish market. It is not necessarily a happy chore preparing and trying to sell fish here, but the family must live and we know the French just love there fresh foods.
The pips shows more stalls from the same market.
Best full screen.
HWW ~ around the corner - again!

A few days ago I posted a photo here from the top of this flight of steps in Cannes. Here is the one from the bottom in slightly different lighting conditions. The PiP shows the top view.
HWW, have a great day.
Stay cool in the woods

Another capture from the Iles St Margarete near Cannes. It’s hot here, and so these pines and eucalyptus trees help cool us down. As well as that, the aromatic pines lifted our senses as we slowly walked through here.
Enjoy full screen.
Marseilles: from Notre Dame de la Garde
|
|
|
|
An overview of the city here looking north. We see practically the whole of the tourist area with the large yacht marina, port and even part of the old castle.
Main sights from left: The old fort now a museum with the tall lighthouse structure, the Cathedrale La Major, centre of front buildings (main tourist promenade) shows the city hall (Hotel De Ville). The local ferry port behind and also the new cruise port in the distance, where our ship lay. Just below us on the right is the treelined street we should have come up to the Notre Dame, with its many coach/bus parking spots bringing the tourist up here.

Another shot from Iles St Margarete near Cannes, France.
Enjoy this day, whether cool & wet or very hot.
HWW ~ A walk through old Marseilles

Another French old town street view here. This area just behind the town hall. I waited till no people were on here but I could do nothing about the bin. Ah well.
HWW, have a great day.
Marseilles and its concrete fences

Down-town Marseilles in France is the area that we are going through. Camera in hand and ready to climb these steps up to the high cathedral path (pip). Quite a hike from here in the hot weather.
Enjoy the weekend.
