A Mam Tor hike

A Mam Tor hike
Having climbed to the trig point just behind me, the next step is to walk the entire top ridge to the top of the hill on the far right corner via Hollin's Cross by the plantation (small woods) you see and then the normal goal of 'Lose Hill 476m' (notes) From there the real hiker heads down to the village of 'Hope'. We on the other hand only managed to get to the flat section below here before turning back to retrace our steps as the weather was closing in fast.
As can be seen, much of this path is now laid in stone to stop further erosion by the many hikers.

Enjoy full screen.

Thanks Gordon. I don't doubt that you will get up here and also do the entire ridge soon. Don't forget the other ridge behind me too (Rushup edge): www.ipernity.com/doc/1081863/52361510)

Have a great Easter weekend in the better weather. (I am still confined to barracks!) Herb

By gum, its good to see you here again Dave. I know this is your backyard and I am partially inspired by your own adventures up here. Glad you liked it

Just taken a look at that fort on my GE windows app and I see there is a new 'New Google web based GE' which is better than the old app but no way to copy locations. Progress ?

I hope you have a fine Easter weekend with family David and we wish your better half a speedy recovery. Herb

What an awesome landscape.............the chap in the red jacket gives us a great idea of scale and as Stephan has said.........it's vast!

Beautifully composed, with great leading lines and a lovely sky!

I think getting off the top when the weather changed was a good call Herb.........very sensible of you.

I'm impressed that the path has been laid with stone............that must have been a difficult and arduous thing to achieve, but completely necessary for the future.

Yes, this is Big Country Keith (but not a BIG as Canada etc). We have walked to Lose Hill once over but we were already late and we had a cottage to book into. It did in fact rain heavy as we reached our car below Mam Tor. I do believe most if not all the rocks (and there must be thousands) were moved by helicopter. Still a great place to see, walk and photograph. ~ When we do these hikes now we really wonder for how many years we can continue that but here's hoping. Glad you liked it.

Enjoy this Easter weekend. Herb

A great image of this sweeping landscape, Herb. Very good that the path is sealed too.
